Speaker Introduction: Professor Nick Cowen
Professor Nick Cowen is a lecturer at the School of Social Sciences at the University of Lincoln and a collaborative researcher at the Business Research Institute (UEH), specializing in studies of crime and political economy. His research focuses on the challenges of maintaining a stable society with minimal reliance on the exercise of power, while analyzing the tensions between the effectiveness of the criminal justice system, economic efficiency, and civil liberties. He was a Fellow at NYU School of Law from 2016 to 2019 and has published extensively in esteemed journals, including the American Journal of Political Science, The British Journal of Criminology, and Polity. He currently serves as the module coordinator for Human Rights and Independent Study, as well as the Ethics Lead at the University of Lincoln, contributing to ethics governance at both the college and university levels.
Seminar Content: The seminar will cover the role of blockchain technology in enhancing the efficiency and transparency of transactions; the impact of Web 3.0 on mobile applications and the sharing economy; and an analysis of how blockchain technology contributes to restoring balance on digital platforms.
